For several years I have used The Maria Thun Biodynamic Almanac to determine when to plant , transplant and harvest my garden. It is a yearly guide created from over 60 years of research on how the moon and its passage through the 12 constellations each month affects plants. I wanted to share it, because it is a treasure trove of information on nature and some of the more subtle aspects of gardening. It shares that "each constellation is associated with one of the four elements: earth, water, air, or fire. And each of these elements affects a different part of a plant:

  • the earth element affects the roots
  • the water element affects the leaves
  • the air element affects the flowers
  • and the fire element affects the fruit and seed."

The book which is only $14.95 comes with a chart of when to work on each type of garden plant. For example If it is lettuce you plant it on a leaf day. If it is a tomato you harvest on a fruit day.

I have found that my harvested veggies last a very long time! I had carrots and parsnips in my frig drawer all winter. My Winter squashes last into the Spring. I ate my last onion from 2025 a few days ago. I still have a full box of garlic. I appreciate the feeling I have when using the chart... its like planting with the wind at your back. Working with nature is its own reward. Something about it just feels right.

I have also just completed a second read through of the Ringing Cedars of Russia book series on Anastasia by Vladimir Megre. I get so much out of it every time, it uplifts me and gets me so excited for life.

I was recently reminded of her suggestion to:

  • put the (organic) seeds in your mouth and hold them there for 9 minutes. Then spit them into your hand and
  • breath over them for a minute or three before planting them. The information in your saliva, and your breath about your body's health and needs is picked up by the seeds, and the plants then grow a crop to assist your body to become healthy.
  • Don't water the seeds for 3 days to allow your information to fully engage the seed.
  • Working in the garden barefoot also helps the plants to pick up on your body's condition and continue to assist you to greater health.

These practices deepen my relationship with my garden, the produce it grows and the natural systems that make it all possible! I also love eating a veggie that I know has been tailor made for my body. Gardening on Love's New Earth is a co-creation with the natural world and the Universe, taking it to the next level is an opportunity we have at any moment.

Remembering we are all that is, and interacting with nature in these ways sends a message to the Universe and the land we live upon... I am here, ready to engage at the next level. Please share your gardening inspirations in the comments below.

Here's to a great gardening season!
